Body Organs - Stomach, Pancreas, Liver Functions Defined

Stomach: The esophagus terminates into an expanded, muscular sac like hollow organ called the stomach. It is positioned in between the esophagus and the small intestine. The fundamental function of stomach is to initiate the process of digestion.
In this process, the food from the mouth comes across special enzymes and acids secreted in the stomach, which helps treating the constitituents of food and killing harmful parasites. The partially digested food in the stomach is turned into chyme.
This semi-digested food called the chyme is passed on to the smaller intestine for the required processing and absorption.

Pancreas: The pancreas is essentially a hormone secreting organ which is the part of the digestive and the endocrine system of our body.It performs the function of an endocrine gland by releasing crucial hormones like insulin, somatostatin, glucagon and also as a digestive organ by secreting essential digestive enzymes in the form of pancreatic juices which helps and enhances the process of digestion and absorption of the food nutrients in the small intestine.Carbohydrates, proteins and lipids present in the chyme are effectively processed with the help of these enzymes in the small intestines.

Liver: The liver is another vital organ of our body, engaged with some of the very crucial functions.

The liver carries out the following essential functions:
Storing glycogen,
Synthesizing plasma protein,
Decomposing red blood cells,
Detoxifying the body and
Secretion of the digestive juice called bile.
