How To Build A Simple Audio Level Indicator Circuit

The terminal I, i.e. the ground of the timer, can be connected to the input of a load to which the signal is to be fed, provided the ground of

the IC timer is kept floating with respect to the ground of the load. Therefore the IC timer 555, as shown in figure, can be used as an analog switch

with the restriction that ground of the switch and the common ground of the load and signal must be separated and floating with respect to each other.
